Draw your feet energetically towards each other

In many poses it is our feet and legs that carry us. Especially in the standing poses we need strong legs to carry us.

When the yoga teacher says: “ Pull your feet energetically towards each other”, in lunge or warrior poses, it means as if you would try to fold the yoga mat together between your feet.

That means that you are pulling the front foot energetically backward and the back foot energetically forward, but in the reality the feet are not moving. It is called an energetic or isometric movement, where you are keeping the muscles of your legs tense.

When you hear the teacher say “pull your legs energetically towards each other” for example in the lunge pose, it means that you can imagine having a yoga block between your thighs and you would press the inner sides of your thighs tightly together. That means that the legs are pulling towards the center line of your body.  The centreline of your body flows from top to bottom and divides the body into the left and right side.

The actions with the legs and feet activate many muscles in the legs and keep the angels, knees and hips stable.
